JEE Main 2027 Syllabus: Chapter-Wise PCM List and What Was Removed

Key takeaways

  • As of 23 September 2026, NTA has not published a separate JEE Main 2027 syllabus; jeemain.nta.nic.in still carries the JEE (Main) 2026 syllabus PDF uploaded on 31 October 2025.
  • The 2026 Paper 1 syllabus has 20 units in Physics, 20 units in Chemistry and 14 units in Mathematics, and it is the safest base for 2027 preparation.
  • The syllabus revision for JEE Main 2024 removed topics such as States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, s-Block Elements, Communication Systems, Mathematical Reasoning and Mathematical Induction; these were still absent in 2026.
  • In 2026, Paper 1 had 75 questions for 300 marks: 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions per subject, with minus one for a wrong answer in both sections.
  • NTA publishes no official chapter weightage, so any weightage list is an estimate from coaching or media analyses of past papers.

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus has not been released by NTA yet. As of 23 September 2026, the official website still shows the JEE (Main) 2026 syllabus, so that is the document you should prepare from until the 2027 information bulletin comes out.

This guide gives you the full unit-wise Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics list from the official 2026 syllabus, the topics removed in the 2024 revision, a short note on Paper 2, and a simple way to turn the syllabus into a study checklist.

Has NTA released the JEE Main 2027 syllabus?

No. On 23 September 2026, jeemain.nta.nic.in still links to the "Syllabus for JEE (Main) - 2026" PDF, uploaded on 31 October 2025. NTA has not issued any notice about changing the syllabus for 2027. The 2027 syllabus is expected with the information bulletin, most likely when Session 1 registration opens.

Here is what is confirmed and what is still pending for 2027.

What is the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern for Paper 1?

NTA has not published the 2027 pattern yet. In 2026, Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) had 75 questions for 300 marks over three hours. Each subject had 20 MCQs in Section A and 5 numerical-answer questions in Section B, all compulsory, with +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one.

SubjectSection A (MCQ)Section B (numerical)Marks
Physics205100
Chemistry205100
Mathematics205100
Total6015300

The 2026 bulletin said numerical answers must be rounded off to the nearest integer. Negative marking applied in both sections. Ties in the NTA score were broken by the Mathematics score first, then Physics, then Chemistry. Practise these units with the chemistry chapter-wise quiz.

Do not skip Unit 20. Questions on vernier and screw gauge readings, or on the logic of a metre bridge experiment, are often short and scoring if you have read the NTA list once.

What is the JEE Main 2027 Chemistry syllabus?

The official 2026 Chemistry syllabus has 20 units: 8 in Physical Chemistry, 4 in Inorganic Chemistry and 8 in Organic Chemistry, including a unit on practical chemistry. Inorganic is now much shorter than before 2024, which makes it one of the most manageable parts of the paper.

SectionUnitUnit name
Physical1Some Basic Concepts in Chemistry (mole concept, stoichiometry)
Physical2Atomic Structure
Physical3Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
Physical4Chemical Thermodynamics
Physical5Solutions
Physical6Equilibrium (chemical and ionic)
Physical7Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry
Physical8Chemical Kinetics
Inorganic9Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties

Organic18Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen (amines, diazonium salts)
Organic19Biomolecules
Organic20Principles Related to Practical Chemistry (salt analysis, titrations, preparations)

Notice how short the p-block unit is: the official text only lists general trends and the unique behaviour of the first element in each group. For fast revision of the tricky trends inside Units 9 to 12, use our inorganic chemistry exceptions list with a self-quiz.

What is the JEE Main 2027 Maths syllabus?

The official 2026 Mathematics syllabus has 14 units, from Sets, Relations and Functions to Trigonometry. Calculus is split across three units (limits and derivatives, integrals, differential equations), and coordinate geometry covers straight lines, circles and conic sections in one unit.

UnitUnit nameMain topics listed by NTA
1Sets, Relations and FunctionsTypes of relations, equivalence relations, one-one and onto functions, composition
2Complex Numbers and Quadratic EquationsArgand plane, modulus and argument, nature of roots
3Matrices and DeterminantsAdjoint, inverse, consistency of linear equations
4Permutations and CombinationsCounting principle, P(n, r) and C(n, r)
5Binomial TheoremPositive integral index, general and middle term
6Sequence and SeriesAP, GP, AM-GM relation
7Limit, Continuity and DifferentiabilityDerivatives up to order two, monotonicity, maxima and minima
8Integral CalculusIndefinite and definite integrals, area under simple curves
9Differential EquationsOrder and degree, separation of variables, homogeneous and linear equations
10Coordinate GeometryStraight lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola in standard forms
11Three Dimensional GeometryDirection ratios and cosines, equation of a line, skew lines and shortest distance
12Vector AlgebraComponents, scalar and vector products
13Statistics and ProbabilityMean, variance, standard deviation, Bayes' theorem, probability distribution
14TrigonometryIdentities, trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions

Read Units 11 and 14 closely. The 2026 text of the 3D Geometry unit mentions lines and skew lines but does not list the equation of a plane, and the Trigonometry unit does not list heights and distances. If a coaching module spends days on these, ask your teacher whether they are needed for JEE Main.

Which topics were removed from the JEE Main syllabus in 2024?

For JEE Main 2024, NTA revised the syllabus to align it more closely with the NCERT and board syllabi. Chemistry saw the biggest cuts, including States of Matter, Surface Chemistry and s-Block Elements. Physics lost Communication Systems, and Maths lost Mathematical Reasoning and Mathematical Induction. The 2025 and 2026 syllabi kept these deletions.

SubjectTopics removed in the 2024 revision (as reported)
ChemistryStates of Matter; Surface Chemistry; General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals; Hydrogen; s-Block Elements; Environmental Chemistry; Polymers; Chemistry in Everyday Life; Thomson and Rutherford atomic models; physical quantities, precision and accuracy
PhysicsCommunication Systems; some experiments from Experimental Skills
MathematicsMathematical Reasoning; Mathematical Induction; some topics of Three Dimensional Geometry

This list is based on news reports from November 2023, such as The Quint's summary of the revised syllabus, checked against the current official PDF, where none of these topics appears.

Your Class 12 board syllabus and the JEE Main syllabus are not the same. A topic missing from JEE Main may still be in your CBSE or state board exam, so do not drop it from board preparation. Plan board and JEE revision together, especially from January to March.

What is the JEE Main Paper 2 syllabus for B.Arch and B.Planning?

Paper 2A (B.Arch) tests Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing Test. Paper 2B (B.Planning) tests Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and Planning-based questions. The Mathematics part uses the same 14 units as Paper 1, so B.Tech aspirants who also take Paper 2 do not need extra maths preparation.

  • Aptitude Test (both papers): awareness of buildings, materials and textures, reading 3D objects from 2D drawings, scale and proportion, and analytical reasoning.
  • Drawing Test (B.Arch only): sketching scenes from memory, such as markets, festivals, monuments, riverfronts and rural life, done on a drawing sheet.
  • Planning (B.Planning only): general awareness, social science topics like federalism, urbanisation and economic development, and thinking skills such as map reading, charts and basic statistics.

In 2026, Paper 2A had 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions in Mathematics, 50 aptitude questions and 2 drawing questions, for 400 marks in total. Paper 2B replaced the drawing part with 25 planning questions, also for 400 marks.

Which chapters carry the most weight in JEE Main?

NTA does not publish chapter weightage. All weightage lists come from coaching or media analyses of past papers, and they differ from each other. Treat them as approximate guides for study order, never as a reason to drop whole units.

We have already compiled an approximate chapter weightage table, based on Vedantu's analysis of 2021 to 2025 papers, in our 100-day JEE Main 2027 study plan, so we have not repeated the numbers here. The short version is simple: with only 25 questions per subject spread over 14 to 20 units, most units get at least one question in most shifts.

How should you use the JEE Main 2027 syllabus with the 100-day plan?

Print the official syllabus PDF and turn it into a checklist. Mark each unit as done, revised once, and tested in a mock. Start the 100-day plan on 14 October 2026 for a 22 January exam, and use the syllabus to make sure no unit is left untouched by early January.

  1. Make a three-column tracker: for every unit in the tables above, write "learnt", "revised" and "mock-tested". Tick only when it is really done.
  2. Delete removed topics from your notes: strike out the 2024 deleted topics in coaching modules so you do not spend time on them.
  3. Match NCERT line by line in Chemistry: inorganic and organic questions often follow NCERT text closely, so read the NCERT section for each listed unit.
  4. Do the lab units early: Physics Unit 20 and Chemistry Unit 20 need only a few focused sessions, but students often leave them for the last week.
  5. Check the 2027 syllabus on release day: when NTA uploads the 2027 PDF, compare it unit by unit with this list and adjust only if something has changed.

After each full mock, you can estimate where your score stands with our JEE Main percentile to rank calculator.

What if NTA changes the syllabus for 2027?

Nothing official points to a change right now. If NTA does revise the syllabus in the 2027 bulletin, the revision is likely to be announced before registration and applied to both sessions. We will update this page with a clear "added" and "removed" list on the day the 2027 syllabus is published.

Two things will not change either way. First, eligibility rules such as the 75% board marks requirement for NIT and IIT admission depend on your Class 12 result, which is explained in our guide to JEE Main eligibility and the 75% criteria. Second, your realistic college options depend on your final rank, and our list of colleges for a low JEE Main rank shows what each rank band can get.

Final word: your JEE Main 2027 syllabus checklist

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus is, for now, the official 2026 syllabus: 20 Physics units, 20 Chemistry units and 14 Maths units, without the topics removed in 2024. Do not wait for a new PDF to start. Use this list, and re-check it once NTA publishes the 2027 bulletin.

  • Download the 2026 syllabus only from jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • Make a unit-wise tracker for all 54 Paper 1 units.
  • Strike out the 2024 deleted topics from your study material.
  • Finish the Experimental Skills and Practical Chemistry units before December.
  • Keep board-only topics in your school revision plan.
  • Check jeemain.nta.nic.in when registration opens for the 2027 syllabus and bulletin.

Frequently asked questions

Has NTA released the JEE Main 2027 syllabus?

Not as of 23 September 2026. The official website jeemain.nta.nic.in still shows the JEE (Main) 2026 syllabus, uploaded on 31 October 2025. Last year the syllabus was posted on the same day the Session 1 registration notice came out, so the 2027 syllabus will most likely appear with the 2027 information bulletin. Until then, prepare from the 2026 syllabus.

Is the JEE Main 2027 syllabus reduced?

The big reduction happened for JEE Main 2024, when NTA removed topics such as States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, s-Block Elements, Environmental Chemistry, Communication Systems, Mathematical Reasoning and Mathematical Induction. The 2025 and 2026 syllabi kept this reduced version. No new reduction for 2027 has been announced so far.

How many chapters are there in the JEE Main syllabus?

The official 2026 Paper 1 syllabus lists 20 units in Physics, 20 units in Chemistry and 14 units in Mathematics. Some units, like Coordinate Geometry or Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen, cover what coaching books split into two or three chapters, so chapter counts in study material can look higher than the unit count.

Is the JEE Main syllabus the same as the NCERT Class 11 and 12 syllabus?

It is based mainly on Class 11 and 12 content and was revised in 2023 to align more closely with NCERT and board syllabi. But it is not an exact copy. Some NCERT topics are not listed, and the Experimental Skills and Practical Chemistry units need lab-based understanding. Always check each topic against the official NTA PDF.

What is the JEE Main Paper 2 syllabus for B.Arch and B.Planning?

Paper 2A (B.Arch) has Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing Test. Paper 2B (B.Planning) has Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and Planning-based questions. The Mathematics part uses the same 14 units as Paper 1. The Planning part covers general awareness, social sciences and thinking skills such as map reading and data interpretation.

What is the chapter-wise weightage for JEE Main 2027?

NTA does not publish chapter-wise weightage. Lists you see online come from coaching or media analyses of past papers and differ from each other. Use them only to decide study order. Since every subject has 25 questions spread across many units, skipping whole units is risky, especially for students aiming for a safe 90 percentile.
