JEE Main 2027 Exam Date, Registration and Last Date: Full NTA Schedule

The JEE Main 2027 exam date for Session 1 is fixed: NTA will hold it on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January 2027 as a buffer day. Session 2 dates and the registration schedule are not out yet, but based on the 2025 and 2026 pattern you can expect the form in late October or early November 2026 and Session 2 in early April 2027.

When is JEE Main 2027 exam date?

JEE Main 2027 Session 1 will be held on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027 in two shifts per day, with 31 January 2027 as a buffer date. NTA published these dates in its examination calendar on 16 September 2026. Session 2 (April) dates have not been announced yet and are expected in the first half of April 2027.

NTA has clearly written on the calendar that all dates are tentative and may change for administrative or other reasons. So treat January 2027 as your target, but keep checking the official site for the Information Bulletin, which will confirm everything.

Note that the January 2027 window is six exam days, compared with five Paper 1 days plus one Paper 2 day in January 2026. The detailed day-wise split between Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) and Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) will come later with the admit card.

What was the actual JEE Main 2026 schedule?

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Paper 1 was held on 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2026 in ten shifts, and Session 2 Paper 1 on 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 April 2026 in nine shifts. Session 1 results came on 16 February and the final result with ranks on 20 April 2026.

This is the best reference you have for 2027, because NTA tends to repeat its timeline. Here are the actual dates, taken from NTA notices and press releases.

Two things stand out. First, the Session 1 result came on 16 February 2026, a few days after the "by 12 February" date in the bulletin, so small delays are normal. Second, NTA reopened the Session 2 form for two days in March 2026 for students who had missed it. Do not count on such a reopening in 2027.

For reference, the 2025 cycle ran on a very similar track: Session 1 registration was 28 October to 22 November 2024, and Session 2 registration was 31 January to 24 February 2025.

When will JEE Main 2027 registration start and what is the last date?

JEE Main 2027 registration is expected to start in late October or early November 2026 and close in late November 2026. This is based on the last two cycles, when the form opened on 28 October 2024 and 31 October 2025 and closed on 22 November 2024 and 27 November 2025.

The official dates will come in the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Until then, any "last date" you see on social media is a guess.

A few practical points about the registration window:

• One form, two sessions: In 2026 you could pay for Session 1 only, or for both sessions together. If you skipped Session 1, you could register fresh for Session 2 in February.
• Fee deadline: The payment deadline was 11:50 PM on the last day in 2026, while the form itself closed at 9:00 PM. Pay early to avoid failed transactions.
• Correction window: NTA opens a short window to edit some fields. Not all fields can be changed, so fill the form carefully the first time.

Tip: Finish your JEE Main 2027 form in the first week it opens. Every year the portal slows down near the last date, and payment failures in the last few hours are common. Keep the confirmation page PDF safely.

How do you apply for JEE Main 2027 on jeemain.nta.nic.in?

You apply online only, on jeemain.nta.nic.in, in three steps: register and get an application number, fill the application form with photo, signature and Class 10 document, then pay the fee online. The confirmation page is generated only after payment succeeds.

Here is the step-by-step process, based on the 2026 bulletin. The 2027 process is expected to be similar.

1. Register: Enter basic details, create a password and security question, and note the system-generated application number. The same number is used for both sessions.
2. Verify identity: In 2026, NTA offered OTP-based Aadhaar e-KYC and DigiLocker. Candidates who used other ID proofs had to report early on exam day for biometric checks.
3. Fill the form: Add personal details, choose the paper, select up to four exam cities (limited to the states of your present and permanent address), and enter Class 10 and Class 12 details.
4. Upload documents: Live photograph through webcam or phone, a recent colour passport photo (10 kb to 200 kb, JPG), signature (10 kb to 100 kb, JPG), Class 10 certificate (PDF, 50 kb to 300 kb) and PwD/UDID certificate if applicable.
5. Pay the fee: Use net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. Processing charges and GST are extra.
6. Download confirmation page: Save a PDF and a printout.

Update your Aadhaar with your current photo, correct name spelling and date of birth before you apply. A mismatch between Aadhaar and the form can create trouble at the exam centre. What is the JEE Main application fee?

For JEE Main 2026, the fee per session for Paper 1 at Indian centres was Rs 1,000 for General male, Rs 800 for General female, Rs 900 for EWS/OBC-NCL male, and Rs 500 for SC, ST, PwD and third gender candidates. The 2027 fee will be confirmed in the new bulletin.

This is the 2026 fee, per session. If you apply for Paper 1 together with B.Arch or B.Planning, the fee is higher (for example, Rs 2,000 for General male and Rs 1,600 for General female in India). If you take both sessions, you pay separately for each.

What is the JEE Main exam pattern and timing?

JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is a 3-hour computer-based test with 75 questions for 300 marks: 25 each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each subject has 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions. Every correct answer gets +4 and every wrong answer gets -1, in both sections.

In 2026, the morning shift ran from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and the afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Entry to the centre was from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM for the morning shift and 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM for the afternoon shift. The exam was available in 13 languages.

Should you appear in both JEE Main 2027 sessions?

Yes, for most students it makes sense to appear in both sessions. NTA uses your better NTA score of the two for the final rank, so a weak January paper can be fixed in April with no penalty. The second attempt also gives you a real feel of the exam hall.

The numbers show that most serious candidates do this. In 2026, 13,55,293 candidates registered for Session 1 and 11,10,904 for Session 2. Of these, 8,61,343 registered in both sessions. In total, 15,38,468 unique candidates appeared across the two sessions.

If your January percentile is already strong enough for your goal, you can use the February to April gap mainly for JEE Advanced 2027 preparation or for backup exams. If it is not, the April session is your best chance to lift your rank.

What comes after JEE Main 2027?

After the final JEE Main 2027 result (expected around 20 April 2027), the top 2,50,000 Paper 1 candidates across categories become eligible for JEE Advanced 2027. Then JoSAA counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs usually starts in early June, followed by state counselling and private college admissions.

Here is how the rest of the year typically looks:

• April to May: JEE Advanced registration and exam for eligible candidates.

• Bookmark jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in, and check them weekly from mid-October 2026.
• Update your Aadhaar photo, name and date of birth now, so e-KYC works smoothly.
• Keep ready a recent colour passport photo with white background, your signature scan, and Class 10 certificate as a PDF.
• Decide your four exam cities within the states of your present and permanent address.
• Fill and pay for the form in the first week the portal opens, and save the confirmation page.
• Plan to appear in both sessions unless your January score already meets your target.
