GATE 2027 registration with late fee is open till 12 October 2026. The regular window without late fee closed on 5 October 2026, so if you register on GOAPS before 12 October you pay the extended-period fee: Rs 1,500 per paper for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates and Rs 2,500 for everyone else.

Status as of 12 October 2026: late-fee window open, closes TODAY, 12 October (Monday). We re-checked gate2027.iitm.ac.in today: the important dates page still lists 12 October 2026 as the extended closing date and shows no further extension. IIT Madras had posted a notice on 6 October confirming this window. This page covers the last date, the official late fee, the steps to finish your form, DigiLocker rules and what comes after registration. For the full exam guide, see our GATE 2027 exam date and registration guide.

Already registered and paid? The GATE 2027 correction window runs 14–21 October 2026. Use it to fix errors in your form; see GATE 2027 correction window: what you can edit from 14 to 21 October. It cannot be used to register after 12 October.

What is the GATE 2027 registration last date now?

The GATE 2027 registration last date is 12 October 2026 (Monday), with late fee. The regular last date without late fee was 5 October 2026, already extended once from 27 September. As of 12 October 2026, the official site shows no further extension, and the late-fee window is open on GOAPS.

Here is the official timeline as it stands today. Only the two registration deadlines changed on 27 September; everything after that stayed the same.

Do not wait for 12 October. Portals slow down and payments fail near every deadline. Finish your form and payment today, 11 October, if you can, and do not plan around any further extension.

How much is the GATE 2027 late fee?

The GATE 2027 late fee for one paper is Rs 1,500 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates and Rs 2,500 for all other candidates, including foreign nationals. That is Rs 500 more than the regular fee. The official fee page shows two papers at Rs 2,500 and Rs 4,500 in the late-fee period.

CategoryRegular (closed 5 Oct), one paperLate fee (6-12 Oct), one paperRegular, two papersLate fee, two papers
Female / SC / ST / PwDRs 1,000Rs 1,500Rs 2,000Rs 2,500
All others, including foreign nationalsRs 2,000Rs 2,500Rs 4,000Rs 4,500

Source: gate2027.iitm.ac.in/application_fees, re-checked on 11 October 2026. The revised brochure (27 September) gives the same single-paper amounts. One mismatch remains: the brochure says two papers cost twice the single-paper fee, which would be higher than the two-paper late-fee figures on the fee page. Pay exactly what GOAPS shows at the payment step. Bank or gateway charges are extra.

PwD here means a person with benchmark disability (40% or more); only such candidates get the concession. The fee is non-refundable, except for duplicate transactions, as per the 7 September 2026 notice.

How do you register for GATE 2027 in the late-fee window?

Log in or register on GOAPS through gate2027.iitm.ac.in, sign in with DigiLocker, complete live face capture, fill paper and city choices, pay the late fee and download your confirmation. If you started a form earlier, continue with the same login. Unpaid forms are not considered.

  1. Open GOAPS from gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Use the same account if you saved a partial form earlier.
  2. Sign in with DigiLocker. It is mandatory for Indian nationals. Try e-KYC first; an unverified account is also accepted.
  3. Upload category documents if needed. SC, ST and PwD candidates put files in the GATE2027 folder in DigiLocker with the exact names asked, each between 10 KB and 600 KB.
  4. Fill the form: personal and degree details, live photo capture, one paper or an allowed two-paper combination, and three exam cities from the same zone.
  5. Click "Save and View Application" and check everything. After "Submit and Proceed to Payment", the brochure says no changes can be made until the correction window.
  6. Pay the late fee by the listed online modes and confirm the transaction appears against your application.
  7. Download the confirmation page and save your payment reference number.

If payment is debited but not confirmed, the brochure says the money comes back within 15 working days, and you should make a fresh payment to finish before the deadline instead of waiting. For other problems, read the official "frequently faced issues" document (26 September notice) before you write to the helpdesk.

Should you choose one GATE 2027 paper or two?

Most candidates should take one paper that matches their degree. A second paper makes sense only if it is an officially allowed combination and you have a clear use for its score, such as a PSU, M.Tech branch or PhD programme that accepts it. In the late-fee window, two papers cost Rs 2,500 or Rs 4,500 as per the fee page.

GATE 2027 has 30 papers, including the new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper, and the XE, XH and XL section codes have changed. Read GATE 2027 paper codes and the revised syllabus and who should take the new RA paper before you pick.

  • Allowed two-paper combinations are fixed on the official combinations page.
  • Your second paper may be at a different centre, but in the same city.
  • The brochure allows changing a paper, and adding a new paper, till 21 October 2026 with fees where applicable. It is still safer to decide correctly now.

What does IIT Madras say about unverified DigiLocker accounts?

You can apply with an unverified DigiLocker account. As per the 17 September 2026 notice and the revised brochure, GATE may ask such candidates for extra documents during scrutiny, and original documents must be shown at the exam venue. A verified account (with e-KYC) is still recommended for a smoother process.

Which documents go into the GATE2027 DigiLocker folder?

Most candidates upload nothing to the folder. As per the official FAQs, General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates upload no documents. SC and ST candidates upload only the category certificate. PwD candidates upload the PwD certificate and UDID card, with appendices as required.

  • The folder name must be exactly GATE2027, with no space.
  • Each file must use the name given in the portal and be between 10 KB and 600 KB.
  • You do not need to upload Class 10, Class 12, UG or PG marksheets in DigiLocker for GATE 2027.

When is the GATE 2027 correction window?

The GATE 2027 correction window runs from 14 to 21 October 2026. It is only for candidates who registered and paid by 12 October. You cannot use it to register late. The brochure lists 21 October as the last date to change category, paper, exam city and personal details, and to add a paper, with an extra fee where applicable.

One mismatch to know about: on 11 October 2026 the official fee page also carries a line saying candidates can log in for application rectification up to 3 November 2026, while the important dates page lists 14 to 21 October. Until IIT Madras clarifies, treat 21 October as your deadline.

We have explained what you can and cannot edit, and how to do it on GOAPS, in our what you can edit from 14 to 21 October. Separately, if scrutiny marks your form defective (for example, an unclear photo or signature), IIT Madras will tell you by email or SMS/WhatsApp to fix it within a set time, so keep checking your inbox through October.

When will GATE 2027 exam cities and admit cards come?

IIT Madras will notify exam cities on 4 January 2027. The admit card date is not announced; the official important dates page shows "TBA". (On 9 October the GATE home page summary showed 4 January against the admit card; on 11 October it lists 4 January as city allotment and the admit card as TBA, matching the important dates page.) GATE 2027 has no international centres, so candidates abroad must choose a city in India. The result is scheduled for 19 March 2027.

If you are tracking other IIT exams this winter, our IIT exam dates 2027 calendar puts GATE, JAM, JEE, UCEED and CEED in one table. Note that IIT JAM 2027 is on 14 February 2027, which is also a GATE exam day.

What should you do next for GATE 2027?

If you have not applied, you have until 12 October 2026: complete your form and pay the GATE 2027 registration late fee on GOAPS. If you have already applied, check your form, keep DigiLocker active, and note the correction window from 14 to 21 October.

  • Not applied yet: finish and pay on GOAPS today if possible; the absolute last date is today, 12 October 2026.
  • Applied already: download your confirmation page and check your name, category, paper and cities.
  • Need a change: use the 14-21 October correction window; fees may apply per change.
  • Once the form is done, start revising with our 16-week GATE 2027 preparation plan.
  • Calendar: 4 January 2027 (city allotment), February 2027 exams, 19 March 2027 result. Admit card: TBA.
  • Plan how you will use your score with our guides on IIT M.Tech admission via COAP and CCMT.
  • Younger siblings still in the JEE race can start with our list of colleges for a low JEE Main rank, since a good B.Tech seat is the first step towards GATE.
