What is the eligibility for IIT Delhi M.Tech?
You need a B.E., B.Tech, 4-year BS, B.Sc (in-person) or M.Sc with 60% marks or CGPA 6.0 (55% or 5.50 for SC, ST and PwD), plus a valid GATE score. These are institute minimums; each department can set higher shortlisting criteria.
- Final-year students: can apply; shortlisting uses marks till the previous semester, and admission is provisional.
- IIT graduates: with a final CGPA of 8.00 or more, exempt from GATE for all M.Tech programmes, but may face a test or interview.
- Other CFTI graduates: some units may exempt JEE-admitted graduates with CGPA 8.00 or more; units can set a higher bar.
- AMIE or Grad IETE: may be considered, but must clear GATE and extra credits before admission.
Which GATE paper do you need for each IIT Delhi M.Tech?
Each programme accepts only certain GATE papers. In IIT Delhi's 2025-26 cut-off list, M.Tech Computer Science took only CS, while some Electrical streams accepted CS, DA, EC, EE, IN or PH. Mechanical programmes took ME and PI, and a few took any paper.
The accepted papers in the brochure's 2025-26 table include: Communications Systems (EC); Computing and Intelligent Systems (CS, DA, EC); Integrated Electronics and Circuits (CS, DA, EE, EC, IN, PH); Power Electronics (EE, EC, IN); Smart and Sustainable Power Systems (EE); Mechanical Design, Production and Thermal (ME, PI); Industrial Engineering and Engineering Analysis and Design (all papers). Annexure III of the brochure maps your B.Tech discipline to the programmes you can apply for.

IIT Delhi publishes the GATE score cut-offs it used for shortlisting non-sponsored full-time M.Tech applicants. The figures below are from the 2025-26 admission cycle, printed in the 2026-27 brochure. IIT Delhi warns they are only for reference and can change substantially.

How do COAP offers work for IIT Delhi?
IIT Delhi's brochure says GATE-qualified full-time applicants must register on COAP first and enter their COAP registration number in the IIT Delhi form. If selected, the offer appears on COAP, where you choose to accept, hold or reject it in each round.
Fill a separate IIT Delhi form for each M.Tech programme. In 2025, IIT Delhi also ran a spot round in July for applicants who met the shortlisting criteria and had not accepted any COAP seat. Round rules (Accept and Freeze, Retain and Wait, Reject) are the same for all IITs.
What are IIT Delhi M.Tech fees and stipend?
Full-time, non-sponsored M.Tech students who have qualified GATE are considered for a teaching assistantship of Rs 12,400 a month for up to four semesters, with eight hours of work a week. The 2026-27 fee table lists Rs 39,900 per semester for General, OBC and EWS assistantship holders.
| Item (2026-27 brochure) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Fee per semester, M.Tech with assistantship (General/OBC/EWS) | Rs 39,900 (tuition Rs 17,500) |
| Fee per semester, SC/ST/PwD | Rs 22,400 (tuition exempt) |
| Sponsored full-time and part-time (General/OBC/EWS) | Rs 95,150 |
| Teaching assistantship (2-year M.Tech) | Rs 12,400 a month, up to 4 semesters |
| High Value Assistantship (3-year M.Tech) | Rs 22,000 a month, up to 6 semesters |
Continuing the assistantship needs an SGPA of at least 7.00 (6.75 for SC, ST and PwD) each semester. Hostel charges are extra, and the offer letter gives the final fee.
Are there sponsored and self-financed routes?
Yes. IIT Delhi offers a full-time M.Tech (Self-Sponsored, without assistantship) through COAP, plus sponsored full-time and part-time seats for employees. Self-sponsored students are not eligible for hostel accommodation, as per the brochure.
- Self-sponsored: no stipend; can be converted to assistantship if a seat falls vacant, based on GATE and test or interview.
- Sponsored full-time: needs a sponsorship certificate with study leave of at least two years; GATE is waived.
- Part-time: for employees of organisations within 50 km of IIT Delhi, with 6 months' (CFTI graduates) or 1 year's experience.
- 3-year HVA M.Tech: Rs 22,000 a month for 20 hours a week of lab support.
If research appeals more, IIT Delhi also allows movement from M.Tech to MS(R) or PhD. Compare routes in our IIT PhD admission 2027 guide, or see the current IIT Delhi PhD January 2027 round.
