What is the eligibility for IIT Hyderabad M.Tech?

IITH's senate eligibility document for July 2026 asks for a B.E., B.Tech, B.Des, B.Arch, M.Sc, MCA or 4-year BS with first class, defined as 60% or CGPA 6.0. For the TA category, selection is based on GATE score. IIT B.Tech and IISc 4-year BS students with CGPA 8.0 or more can apply without GATE.

  • TA (MoE): first class plus GATE; offers through COAP.
  • RA (project): first class plus GATE, or 6 months of research at IITH, or 2 years in industry or an R&D lab; test and/or interview.
  • Govt. lab or industry sponsored: first class plus a recommendation (Integrated Defence HQ or DRDO) or NOC and study leave.
  • Self-sponsored: first class; entrance test and/or interview.

Except for the GATE-based TA category, IITH relaxes the marks requirement by 10% for OBC and 15% for SC and ST candidates. It also says the cut-off may be raised if applications are many.

Which GATE paper do you need for IIT Hyderabad M.Tech?

Each department names the GATE papers it accepts. For example, the CSE brochure asks for a valid GATE score in CS for the 2-year MoE M.Tech, and Electrical Engineering maps each stream to specific papers. Mechanical and Aerospace also accepts XE, except for Robotics and Intelligent Systems.

Programme (2026 brochures)GATE papers accepted
Computer Science and Engineering (2-year, MoE)CS

EE - Microelectronics and VLSIEE, EC, IN, PH
EE - Power Electronics and Power SystemsEE
EE - Systems and ControlEE, EC, IN
Mechanical and Aerospace streamsDiscipline-specific (ME, AE and others); XE also accepted except Robotics and Intelligent Systems

How do COAP offers work at IIT Hyderabad?

IITH's flyer says every GATE-qualified candidate applying for the M.Tech TA category must first register on COAP, because the COAP registration number is needed in the IITH application form. Offers are then released on COAP in rounds, and you accept, hold or reject them there.

The CSE brochure adds that the department may run written tests or interviews after COAP to fill unfilled seats. It also notes that 2-year M.Tech intake is only for July, while its 3-year research M.Tech usually admits in July and January.

What GATE score is needed for IIT Hyderabad M.Tech?

IITH departments say MoE-category admission is guided mainly by GATE score cut-offs, with interviews if needed. However, we did not find a consolidated official cut-off list on IIT Hyderabad's M.Tech admissions page as of 9 October 2026, so we are not printing last year's numbers.

Several websites publish "IIT Hyderabad M.Tech cut-offs" that do not match each other or say which round they cover. Treat them as unofficial. Check your department's admissions page for any official list.

What are IIT Hyderabad M.Tech fees and stipend?

IITH's fee table for PG students newly enrolled in July 2026 shows a first-semester total of Rs 86,583 for regular General and OBC students, including tuition of Rs 12,000. MoE (TA) students get a stipend as per Ministry of Education norms; self-sponsored students get none.

Which other routes does IIT Hyderabad offer?

Besides TA, IITH admits M.Tech students under research assistantship, sponsored, self-sponsored and online modes. These routes rely on tests, interviews or experience rather than GATE alone.

  • 3-year research M.Tech (RA): stipend from the project; GATE or IITH project experience or 2 years' industry work.
  • Self-sponsored: higher fee and no stipend; GATE is recommended but not mandatory in CSE.
  • Online M.Tech: Computational Mechanics, Industrial Metallurgy, Data Science, Heritage Science and Technology, ICME and EV Technology; most need 2 years' experience with NOC, or GATE.
