Before you lock a dual degree, check the fee for the MBA or M.Tech years and the exit rules in the official IIT Patna documents. A five-year programme with an MBA from a partner IIM is a very different plan from a four-year B.Tech.

IIT Patna's official fee page, for B.Tech, B.S. and B.Tech/B.S.-M.Tech dual degree admissions from July 2023 onwards, lists Rs 1,64,750 for semester 1 and Rs 1,25,000 for each later semester for Indian students. Both include Rs 1,00,000 tuition. International, NRI and OCI students pay Rs 3,00,000 tuition per semester.

The semester 1 total includes one-time items such as a Rs 20,000 refundable deposit. SC, ST and PwD students get a full tuition waiver. Students with family income below Rs 1 lakh a year get full tuition remission, and those between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh get two-thirds remission. Where is IIT Patna and what is the campus like?
IIT Patna is one of the IITs set up in 2008. Its permanent campus is at Bihta, about 35 km from Patna city in Bihar. It is Bihar's only IIT. In the NIRF 2025 engineering list, IIT Patna (19) was the highest-ranked institute in the state, ahead of NIT Patna (53).

IIT Patna admission 2027 has three main doors. B.Tech, B.S. and dual-degree seats come only through JEE Advanced 2027 and JoSAA. M.Tech seats need a valid GATE score and IIT Patna's own application, with offers through COAP. PhD admission runs in January and July cycles on IIT Patna's academic portal.

B.Tech through JEE Advanced and JoSAA
You must be among the candidates eligible to register for JEE Advanced through JEE Main (the top 2,50,000 in 2026), qualify JEE Advanced 2027, and then choose IIT Patna programmes in JoSAA. The 75% Class 12 rule (65% for SC, ST, PwD) or top-20-percentile condition applies at seat allocation. The JEE Advanced 2027 organiser and dates are not confirmed yet.
M.Tech through GATE
IIT Patna's official M.Tech 2026-27 advertisement says regular, full-time selection is "based on performance in GATE" through COAP. Applicants needed 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (55% or 6.0 for SC/ST) in the qualifying degree. B.Tech graduates of an IIT with a CPI of at least 8.0 were exempt from GATE. Sponsored candidates with at least two years of experience did not need GATE but faced a written test and/or interview.

PhD calls
IIT Patna's PhD page says admission is considered in a regular cycle "in Jan / July each year". Institute fellowship applicants need a valid GATE score above the cut-off (or NET where applicable), and the GATE requirement is waived for engineering graduates of CFTIs with a CGPA above 8.0. Meeting the cut-off does not guarantee shortlisting.
