JEE Advanced 2027 Exam Date, Eligibility & 2026 Result Recap

The JEE Advanced 2027 exam date is expected to fall on a Sunday in the second half of May 2027, going by the 18 May 2025 and 17 May 2026 exams. The official date has not been announced yet; IIT Delhi is reported as the organising institute and will publish the dates in the JEE Advanced 2027 information brochure.

This guide gives you the expected 2027 timeline, the full eligibility rules, and a clear recap of the JEE Advanced 2026 result and IIT result 2026 numbers. It also tells you what to do after the result, whether you qualify or not.

When is the JEE Advanced 2027 exam date?

JEE Advanced 2027 has no official date yet. Based on the last two cycles, expect the exam in the second half of May 2027, registration in late April to early May 2027, and the result in the first week of June 2027. Treat every 2027 date below as tentative until the official brochure is out.

The table below puts the actual JEE Advanced 2026 dates next to what you can reasonably expect in 2027. The 2026 dates are from the official jeeadv.ac.in website.

In 2026, Paper 1 ran from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on the same day. Both papers are compulsory. Expect the same two-paper format in 2027 unless the brochure says otherwise.

Which IIT will conduct JEE Advanced 2027?

IIT Delhi is reported as the organising IIT for JEE Advanced 2027, working under the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The exam rotates among seven older IITs. IIT Kanpur conducted it in 2025 and IIT Roorkee in 2026, so IIT Delhi is next in the usual cycle.

The organising IIT sets the brochure, runs the registration portal, prepares the paper and declares the result. The official site stays jeeadv.ac.in every year. Be careful with look-alike websites that ask for payment; only pay through the official portal.

JEE Advanced 2026 result: how did the IIT result 2026 look?

The JEE Advanced 2026 result was declared on 1 June 2026 by IIT Roorkee. Out of 1,87,389 registered candidates, 1,79,694 appeared in both papers and 56,880 qualified, including 10,107 female candidates. Shubham Kumar of IIT Delhi zone topped with 330 out of 360 marks.

Zone-wise, IIT Madras zone had the most candidates in the top 500 (174), followed by IIT Bombay zone (120) and IIT Delhi zone (114). IIT Delhi zone had five of the top 10 rankers.

JEE Advanced 2026 qualifying marks

To appear in a rank list, you had to clear both a minimum mark in each subject and a minimum aggregate. The maximum aggregate was 360 (120 each for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

These numbers are set after the exam, based on the paper's difficulty. Do not treat 92 marks as a target. Clearing the cutoff only puts you in a rank list; a good IIT branch needs a much better rank.

How to check the JEE Advanced result?

You check the JEE Advanced result on jeeadv.ac.in by logging in with your registration number (or email), date of birth and the mobile number you registered with. The scorecard shows subject-wise marks, total marks, your CRL and category ranks. Save a PDF copy.

1. Go to the official website jeeadv.ac.in on result day.
2. Click the result link on the candidate portal.
3. Enter your JEE Advanced registration number, date of birth and registered mobile number.
4. Download the scorecard and take two printouts.
5. Check your name, category and PwD status. Report any mismatch to the organising IIT immediately.

Your JEE Advanced rank is also used on the JoSAA portal when you register for counselling, so keep your registration number and login details safe.

Who is eligible for JEE Advanced 2027?

To write JEE Advanced 2027 you must be in the top 2,50,000 of JEE Main 2027 Paper 1 (all categories), meet the age limit, be within two attempts in consecutive years, have appeared in Class 12 with PCM in the allowed years, and not have taken an IIT seat before. The 2027 brochure will confirm details.

The 2026 brochure listed five criteria. Expect the same structure in 2027, with each year-based rule moving forward by one year.

1. Performance in JEE Main

Only the top 2,50,000 successful JEE Main Paper 1 candidates can register. The seats are split by category, with a 5% horizontal PwD reservation inside each category.

In JEE Main 2026, the General category qualifying cutoff for JEE Advanced was about 93.41 percentile, as reported with the NTA result. It was about 93.10 in 2025. If you want to understand where your percentile lands, see our JEE Main percentile vs rank table.

2. Age limit

For 2026, candidates had to be born on or after 1 October 2001, with five years' relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates (born on or after 1 October 1996). If the rule moves forward by one year as usual, the 2027 cutoff would be 1 October 2002 (1 October 1997 for SC, ST and PwD). Confirm this in the 2027 brochure.

3. Number of attempts

You can write JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, in two consecutive years. If you wrote it in 2026, 2027 is your last chance. If you are in Class 12 in 2026-27, you get 2027 and 2028.

4. Class 12 appearance

For 2026, you had to appear in Class 12 (with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics compulsory) for the first time in 2025 or 2026. For 2027, this is expected to become 2026 or 2027.

5. No earlier IIT admission

If you already accepted an IIT seat in an earlier year, you generally cannot write again. There are limited exceptions in the brochure, such as for students in the preparatory course or those whose seat was cancelled or withdrawn before the last round. Read that section carefully if it applies to you.

What is the JEE Advanced registration fee?

For JEE Advanced 2026, the registration fee for Indian exam centres was Rs 1,600 for female candidates, SC, ST and PwD candidates, and Rs 3,200 for everyone else. The fee is non-refundable. The 2027 fee will be announced in the new brochure and may change.

Pay the fee before the fee deadline, which can be earlier than the form deadline. In 2026, the form deadline was extended but the fee window was separately notified. Do not leave payment for the last evening.

How is the JEE Advanced exam structured?

JEE Advanced has two compulsory three-hour papers on the same day, each covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In 2026 the total was 360 marks: 180 per paper and 120 per subject. The question types and marking schemes change each year and are announced only on the question paper.

That last point matters for preparation. You may see numerical answer questions, single-correct and multiple-correct MCQs, and matching questions, often with partial marking. Practise all these formats with past papers, and read the instructions at the start of each section on exam day.

What happens after the JEE Advanced 2027 result?

After the result, you register on the JoSAA portal for IIT seats (and NIT+ seats, using your JEE Main rank). In 2026 JoSAA registration opened on 2 June, the day after the result. Architecture aspirants must also clear the AAT, held a few days after the result.

To judge which IIT branch is realistic, look at JoSAA opening and closing ranks for the last two years. Top branches at older IITs close within a few hundred ranks in the OPEN category, while many branches at newer IITs close in the several-thousand range. Always check the actual year, round and category before you rely on any number.

What if you do not qualify JEE Advanced 2027?

If you do not qualify JEE Advanced, your JEE Main rank still gives you a strong route to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JoSAA and CSAB, plus state counselling and private universities. Many students with modest ranks get good branches if they apply widely and early.

What should you do next? JEE Advanced 2027 checklist

The JEE Advanced 2027 exam date will most likely be in the second half of May 2027, with IIT Delhi reported as organiser. Use the months before it well and keep your documents ready so that paperwork does not cost you a seat.

• Register for JEE Main 2027 session 1 as soon as NTA opens the form (expected October 2026).
• Check your attempt eligibility: you must have first appeared for Class 12 in the permitted years.
• Make sure your Class 10 certificate shows your correct date of birth and that your name matches across all documents.
• If you belong to OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST or PwD, get a fresh certificate in the prescribed format issued in the correct financial year.
• Solve at least the last five years of JEE Advanced papers under timed conditions.
• Bookmark jeeadv.ac.in and josaa.nic.in, and ignore unofficial "registration" links.
• Prepare a backup plan with NITs, IIITs, state counselling and other entrance exams.
