JEE Main Result 2026: How to Check, NTA Score and Percentile vs Rank

Yes, the JEE Main result for 2026 is out: NTA declared the Session 1 Paper 1 result on 16 February 2026 and the final Session 2 result, with All India Ranks, on 20 April 2026. You can check it on jeemain.nta.nic.in with your application number and password or date of birth.

This guide explains how to check your result, what the NTA score really means, what happened in the 2026 result, and gives an approximate percentile vs rank table so you can judge where you stand for 2027 admissions.

Is JEE Main result 2026 out?

Yes. Both JEE Main 2026 results are out. The Session 1 NTA scores for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) were declared on 16 February 2026. The final result, which combines both sessions, gives All India Ranks and sets the JEE Advanced cutoff, was declared on 20 April 2026.

Across both sessions, 16,04,854 unique candidates registered and 15,38,468 unique candidates appeared. For comparison, JEE Main 2025 had 14,75,103 unique candidates appear, and 24 scored 100 percentile.

In the 2026 final list, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had 5 candidates each with 100 NTA score, and Rajasthan had 4. Aarush Singhal from Chandigarh was among the 26 who scored 100. NTA lists 100 percentilers by application number, not by rank, so check the official rank list before believing any "AIR 1" claim online.

How do you check the JEE Main result?

Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in, click the result or scorecard link for the right session and paper, and log in with your application number and password (or date of birth) plus the security code. Your scorecard shows subject-wise and total NTA scores, and after Session 2, your All India Rank.

1. Open the official site jeemain.nta.nic.in.
2. Click the link for "JEE (Main) 2026 Session 2 Paper 1 Score Card" (the exact text changes each year).
3. Enter your application number and password, or date of birth, as asked.
4. Type the security pin shown on screen and submit.
5. Check your name, category, NTA scores in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, total NTA score, and rank.
6. Download the PDF and take a printout. You will need it for counselling.

During result time, the official site often slows down because lakhs of students log in together. NTA sometimes uses mirror links on nic.in domains. Only trust links you reach from jeemain.nta.nic.in itself.

What if you forgot your password or the result does not open?

Use the "Forgot Password" option on the login page. It lets you reset the password with your registered email, mobile number or security question. If the page keeps timing out, wait an hour and try again rather than refreshing again and again. For real problems, the NTA helpline is 011-40759000 and the email is jeemain@nta.ac.in.

Save your scorecard PDF in two places (phone and email). NTA's 2026 bulletin said the confirmation page, admit card and scorecard would not be available after 31 July 2026. JoSAA, state counselling and private colleges all ask for it.

What time is the JEE Main result released?

NTA does not announce a fixed result time. Results usually appear in the evening or late at night, often on the same day NTA releases the final answer key. In 2026, the final answer key and the final result were both released on 20 April 2026.

A good rule of thumb: once the final answer key is out, the result is usually hours away, not days. Keep your application number and password ready, and do not panic if the site crashes in the first hour.

Also note that dates can slip slightly. The 2026 bulletin said the Session 1 result would come "by 12 February", but it was actually declared on 16 February 2026.

What does the NTA score mean?

The NTA score is a percentile score, not marks and not a percentage. It shows the percent of candidates in your shift who scored equal to or less than you. The topper of each shift gets 100. NTA calculates it to seven decimal places to reduce ties.

Because JEE Main runs in many shifts with different papers, NTA normalises scores shift by shift. The idea is simple:

• Shift percentile = 100 x (number of candidates in your shift with raw score equal to or less than yours) / (total candidates in your shift).
• This is done separately for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and the total.
• All shifts of both sessions are then merged to make one merit list, using the total NTA score.
• If you appeared in both sessions, your better total NTA score is used.

So a student with 180 marks in a tough shift can get a similar or higher percentile than a student with 190 marks in an easy shift. That is the whole point of normalisation.

How are ties broken?

If two candidates have the same total NTA score, NTA breaks the tie in this order: higher NTA score in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry. After that, it looks at the ratio of wrong answers to right answers, first overall and then subject by subject. The candidate with fewer wrong answers per right answer ranks higher. If a tie still remains, both get the same rank.

What was the JEE Main 2026 cutoff for JEE Advanced?

For JEE Advanced 2026, the general (UR) category cutoff was 93.4123549 percentile, EWS 82.4164528, OBC-NCL 80.9232583, SC 63.9172792 and ST 52.0174712. These cutoffs pick the top 2,50,000 Paper 1 candidates across categories, as fixed by the JEE Advanced rules.

For comparison, the 2025 general cutoff was about 93.10 percentile, EWS about 80.38, OBC-NCL about 79.43, SC about 61.15 and ST about 47.90. So the bar moved up slightly in 2026. JEE Main percentile vs rank: what rank will you get?

You can estimate your JEE Main rank with this formula: rank is roughly (100 minus your percentile) x total candidates / 100. With 15,38,468 unique candidates in 2026, a 99 percentile gave a rank of about 15,000, 95 percentile about 77,000, and 90 percentile about 1.5 lakh.

The table below uses the official number of unique candidates who appeared in 2026 and 2025. These are approximate Common Rank List (CRL) ranks. Real ranks can differ a little because of ties and because NTA merges both sessions.

A quick sanity check shows the formula works: at the 2026 UR cutoff of 93.41 percentile, the formula gives about 1 lakh, and NTA's official figure of UR candidates above that cutoff was 96,873.

What about marks vs percentile?

Marks needed for a given percentile change with each shift's difficulty, so no single marks table is exact. Coaching institute analyses of recent years usually place 99 percentile roughly in the 190 to 205 marks range, and 90 percentile roughly in the 85 to 100 range. Treat these only as a rough guide.

CRL rank vs category rank

Your scorecard shows your CRL rank and, if you belong to a reserved category, your category rank too. JoSAA uses your category rank for category seats. For reserved category students, the category rank is always much smaller than the CRL rank, because you compete only within your category for those seats. That often opens many more options than the CRL number suggests.

What can you do with your JEE Main percentile?

Your percentile decides which counselling route suits you. Roughly, 98 to 99 plus percentile can target good NITs, 90 to 98 percentile can target newer NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and strong state colleges, and below 90 percentile many state and private colleges still accept JEE Main scores.

These bands are only indicative. Closing ranks depend on the institute, branch, category, gender pool and home state quota. Use real JoSAA closing rank data before you decide. These guides will help:

Do not reject JoSAA because your rank "looks low". Many NIT and IIIT seats in later rounds, and CSAB special rounds, close at much higher ranks than first-round cutoffs. Fill enough choices.

When will the JEE Main 2027 result be declared?

The JEE Main 2027 result dates are not announced yet. Based on the 2026 pattern, expect the Session 1 result in mid-February 2027 and the final result with ranks around 20 April 2027. Session 1 of JEE Main 2027 is scheduled for 22 to 30 January 2027.

Your JEE Main result is a starting point, not the end. Whether your percentile is 99 or 70, there is a sensible next step. Use this checklist:

• Download and save your scorecard PDF in at least two places.
• Note your CRL rank and category rank separately.
• Check the JEE Advanced cutoff for your category and register for Advanced if you qualify.
• Convert your percentile to an approximate rank using the table above.
• Compare your rank with real JoSAA closing ranks for your category and home state.
• Register for state counselling that uses JEE Main scores, and shortlist private colleges as backup.
• If you are writing JEE Main 2027, set a clear target percentile and plan to take both sessions.
